LCDT

Usually Squadron parades are run, no matter on the temperature. However for classes such as drill might (and in extreme weather should) be postponed until the next week. I don't believe there is any formal or written 'rule' on temperature range, however common sense would prevail in most cases.

I trust this answers your question.

ADF Heat Stress policy is available for download from the AAFC Resource center.

http://aafc.net.au/download/Default.asp?Category=144

It should be common sense as to what training value it is to continue. There are some activities that would be OK to continue in 40 degree heat that would not be suitable in 15 degree weather (swimming for example). Activities such as drill in 40 degrees is probably a waste of time and effort. Very little training value in something like that.

AAP 6730.001 RAAF Safe Manual (referred to in the AAFC RI reference in OCGTW's post) is the document that the RAAF and AAFC refers to regarding OH&S policies, guidelines and procedures. Part 1 Section 3 Chapter 6 of that document relates to the prevention of heat stress. Annex C to that chapter is the work-rest table that provides guidance for the amount of work verses the amount of rest. The table is not a definitive measure of safe or non-safe work practices.

In addition to the RAAFSafe Manual, Appendix 1 to Annex A to Chapter 6 of Part 3 Volume 1 of the Defence Safety Manual (SAFETYMAN) contains ADFC-specific guidance regarding heat injury prevention.

Are we seriously referencing an RI that is from 4 years ago  Where's the accountability for staff.... I thought there was an ADFC safety manual, could it not be incorporated into that.

Sir,

I think the POLMAN hasn't been updated yet, the contents page lists the Annex, however the main document doesn't contain any of the Heat management policy.

This is probably why there is some confusion out there with processes; I can certainly understand why some circumstances get blown out of proportion without readily available procedures in place
