Navy graduation parades

Postby cayles » Sat Feb 06, 2010 1:42 pm

Ok this may sound like a strange question but I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out here. My best friends boyfried is about the graduate for his specialist training in the navy and as a surprise she is going town to watch the parade with his family. And she was curious what she is ment to wear to the parade and the functions afterwards.

I hope someone can help her,

thanks in advance

CFSGT,

Units generally send out info via trainees to NOK containing those details. Dress will depend on the trainee and where the functions are held and if she is an ADF member.

For example, an officer graduation would normally hold a function after the parade in the Officers or Cadets Mess depending on the base. Dress for the Os mess is more formal than the ORs.

The lass concerned should be speaking with the members parents/NOK to find out what details they have. Alternatively she should ring the unit and ask.

Not sure if the information is still relevent but the title caught my eye,
as the Sergeant said it all varies by rank and base, if he is passing out of Category Training at HMAS CERBERUS then neat civilian attire would be acceptable (slacks and button up shirt/female equivalent), if however he was passing out of HMAS WATSON due to the nature of the Establishment a higher degree of formality is needed (up to full suit in some cases). Best to be safe and obtain a copy of the invitation that is sent out to NOKs or check the Navy Website for major passing out parades (such as the New Entry Officers Course, Junior Warfare Officers Application Course, Recruit School and CERBERUS Engineering Faculty Parades)

formal attire is generally worn by all guests unless they are currently serving members. at least was the case when i passed out of hmas cerberus naval recruit school. if formal attire is not a possibility then neat casual attire wih a collar is generally acceptable for men and neat civillian attire, whether it be a dress, a skirt with a blouse or neat jeans and a casual shirt is also generally acceptable.
